Scholarships

To date, The ADVERTISING Club Foundation has funded more than $1.5 million in grants and scholarships. The Foundation continues to be committed to supporting and recruiting the brightest young minds into our industry. The Foundation's educational program provides undergraduate scholarships and internships along with other educational opportunities for the future leaders of our industry. Current programs include the Advertising Person of the Year and Glenn C. Smith Scholarship.

Advertising Person of the Year / Silver Medal Scholarship

Annually, students from the New York area apply for the opportunity to be the recipient of this $5,000 scholarship in the name of our "Advertising Person of the Year / Silver Medal Award."  Students from the following NY schools are eligible to apply for the grant:

Baruch College, City College of New York, College of Mt. St. Vincent, Fashion Institute of Technology, Hofstra University, Long Island University, New York University, New York Institute of Technology, Pace University, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, School of Visual Arts, St. John's University and Yeshiva University.

Applicants are reviewed by the AD Club for both academic excellence and financial need, in addition to responses to several essay questions.

Past winners of the Scholarship include:

  • 2009 - Michael Oh, School of Visual Arts was awarded the Bob Lachky/Tony Ponturo Scholarship
  • 2008 - Valentino Smith, Long Island University was awarded the Lawrence Flanagan Scholarship
  • 2007 - Annie Chiu, School of Visual Arts was awarded the Bobby Shriver Scholarship
  • 2006 - Renee Herenden, Pace University was awarded the Wenda Harris Millard Scholarship
  • 2005 - Angela Prout, Hofstra University was awarded the Andrea Alstrup Scholarship
  • 2004 - Julian Attia, Parsons School of Design was awarded the James L. McDowell Scholarship

 

The Student Competition and Glenn C. Smith Scholarship

Annually, The ADVERTISING Club and The International ANDY Awards celebrate great advertising being done by students from around the world with a student competition and a scholarship. Named for a past ANDY Chairman, Glenn C. Smith, this award is given to the student winner of The International ANDY Awards; generally an Art Director/Copywriter team, they receive recognition at the ANDY Show along with $5,000 in scholarship money. All full-time students are encouraged to submit their creative work which is judged by the same jury of creative directors who select the winners of The ANDY Awards.

The Foundation

The AD Club Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Club, develops and administers educational outreach programs including scholarships and summer internship positions for undergrad students.
